About Kelly Franklin Armstrong: Real Estate Mortgage Broker
Upon graduation, he started in a management trainee program with United Missouri Bank in St. Louis (subsidiary of United Missouri Bancshares, Inc.). After completing that program, he worked his way up through various positions and upon his departure in February of 2002, he was the manager of their West County region, responsible for the growth and profitability of that location, as well as business development and commercial lending. He was recruited by Charles Bruning, Chairman of The Board and CEO of Edgemark Financial Corporation, a five bank holding company headquartered out of Burr Ridge, Illinois, to run his retail banking operation at Merchandise National Bank, one of the five banks owned by his holding company. Merchandise National Bank consisted of three banks located in downtown Chicago, with the lead bank located in the Merchandise Mart Plaza, situated on the Chicago River in the heart of the City’s business center referred to as the “loop”. The “Mart” is the second largest building in the world, next to the Pentagon, and is one of the last major commercial real estate holdings of the famed Kennedy family. It was the most intriguing and interesting location that he has ever worked. His experiences in that position and at that location put him into contact with an invaluable list of professionals that he turns to for advice, consultation, and networking. As the Vice President in charge of retail banking and a member of senior management and the strategic marketing team, Bruning hired him to “cleanup” his retail banking and loan operations and position the bank for resale, targeting that time frame for five years. While at Edgemark, he attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, located at the University of Delaware in Wilmington. Delaware, the equivalent of obtaining a Masters Degree in Business in the specialized field of banking. The bank was sold to Old Kent Bank out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, in May of 2004, just two years and three months after he was hired. In June of 2004, he moved south to Key West, Florida, as he was always attracted to the year round warm climate of South Florida. Upon his arrival in Key West he attempted to purchase an existing business and when that fell through during the due diligence portion of that offer, he began his career as a licensed Key West Real Estate Mortgage Broker. As an originator for the large residential real estate mortgage conglomerate, GMAC Real Estate Mortgage, he established himself locally, then moved to open his own company in August of 1997.
Located in the Key West Real Estate building at 138 Simonton St., Key West, Florida, he has established his real estate mortgage business and compiled a client list of business owners, business professionals, dignitaries, and locals. His Key West real estate clients include judges, lawyers, professional athletes, actors, even a Fortune 500 company C.E.O. He has helped many locals over the years achieve their dream of home ownership. He is been recruited by local banks to head up their residential loan operations on more than one occasion but has always opted to stay as a small business owner, enjoying the satisfaction of helping his clients achieve their goals and handling that transaction himself from start to finish He is an active volunteer, coaching Key West’s youth in basketball and soccer. At one time, he was an assistant Key West High School basketball coach for the then head Coach, Bill Butler, and has been the head coach for many PAL league basketball teams in the sixth through eighth grade division. His passions are spending time with his children, Paris age nine and Jordan age six, golf, fishing, and travel.
